Shillo Stories: Hannah Wang

Say hello to Hannah, who graduated from our part-time course in December 2022. Hannah is currently Graphic Designer & Communications Coordinator at American University in Washington D.C. Let's hear what she's been up to!

Inspiring me

I am inspired by letterpress at the moment. I'm currently part of a small artists' collective in the area that works on letterpress, and recently completed a calendar with them. The design features my own handwriting, and was made into a polymer plate, which was then set onto a Vandercook press for printing!

I also draw inspire from nature, and watching various movements (people skating, climbing, dancing, etc.).

On reflection

I have just started in my career, but I'm already happy to see the various types of different projects I've been able to work on. I recently spearheaded a major communications campaign for my full-time position which included a full rebranding, as well as a lot of copywriting.

I've also learned how to be really creative in a corporate space that has strict branding guidelines.

What's cooking?

Honestly, I'm so proud of having been able to spearhead our open enrolment campaign at work. I know insurance isn't the most glamorous, but it was really cool learning more about the US medical system, and solving the problem of how to make something dry engaging and informative for our staff.

I've also been working on some fun passion projects on the side, one of which is a dog-based art programme, and the other is some streetwear design that I made in honour of one of my former students who unfortunately passed away a few years ago. I'm currently delving into the wild world of motion graphic design as well, with a small project that is still in the works, but has been a blast to work on.

Big thanks to Hannah!
