I'm Sean Abrahams, a designer from Sydney who believes in the importance of considered and beautiful design. I graduated from Shillington in 2022 and was most recently a designer at creative agency Moffitt.Moffitt. where I contributed to projects that revitalised some of Australia’s biggest brands. I'm also the co-founder of Floorplan Studio, a design studio and publishing platform that believes in the power of storytelling across a range of creative forms to make meaning of the world around us.
Inspiring me
My life has changed drastically, as I shift into the world of freelance design and begin my career journey in Paris. I recently spent two months in the city and found so much inspiration in the many museums and cultural institutions I visited. Palais de Tokyo stood out to me as an amazing source of inspiration. From the exhibitions, signage and print design, to events like the Paris Ass Book Fair, the institution brings a unique and engaging energy to museum curation.
The whole experience has inspired me to experiment and play with design and think more consciously about the human experience. As someone who has designed multiple identities for exhibitions and art events I was challenged by the many ways the Palais de Tokyo design team subverted the standard museum experience, often breaking out of the 'white box' theory. Within the space multiple different exhibition identities coexisted, often using bold colour palettes and playful typography.
On reflection
A significant moment in my professional journey was my experience working at Moffitt.Moffitt., one of Sydney’s most reputable creative agencies. There I learnt that due diligence was everything. Working directly with clients on large projects meant that responsibility was on me to deliver both on concept on execution. I learned directly from our Creative Directors that no client expectation was too high, and that my ideas always had to be backed up by strong conceptual frameworks. It also taught me confidence, in myself, my designs and my presentations skills.
What's cooking?
I've been cooking up my personal branding suite! I wanted to elevate how I appear to future clients, so I’ve updated my portfolio and website to reflect my design philosophy. The process involved looking inwards to bring out a true reflection of myself. It also was a great opportunity to show off all of my artistic and creative endeavours over the last few years.
I wanted my website to show off my ability to design, develop and deliver on digital projects, as everything was custom designed. Not only was it a necessary project to undertake but it was also very inspiring and fun, and has made me happy to be a designer more than ever.
